About this site
The site started as a place for me to gather flight planning and weather information in one place for personal use. Others have found it useful, so I've expanded it to make it a bit more user friendly, and have added the enhanced functionality on the bar to the right. I make updates occassionally, but not as often as I'd like.
What's here?
You can access just about everything using either the menu bar at the top of the page or the tools to the right.
Home - this page
Weather Links - links to external weather sources
Weather Graphics - weather graphics I use on a frequent basis: current SIGMETs/AIRMETs, prog charts, etc.
Flight Planning - links to useful planning sites
Map - Google Map with markers for all airports I've landed at
Trips - will be reserved for trip writeups, currently includes pictures from our cross-continent trip last July
Videos - as it sounds
Pilot Logbook - I created an Excel workbook that I use to track flight time. I've included the Excel file and a tutorial here.
Links - General links of interest
Metar/TAF Data - Enter ICAO identifiers for airports where you want to pull weather. Note that ICAO idents are 4-character. (e.g. use KEWR, not EWR for Newark.) You can enter multiple airports seperated by a space. The "Translated" option will allow you to view a the raw data translated into something meaningful if you aren't used to reading raw Metar/TAF reports. Data comes from NOAA and the national weather service.
VFR Sectional - this is a really cool tool put out by skyvector. Enter any airport, VOR or intersection identifier, press submit and watch the magic.
AirNav - Great site that gives information on different airports. Enter the airport ID if you know it, or if you don't enter a city or name.
Approach Plates and Terminal Procedures -
A pdf version of the printed paper books from the National Aeronautical Charting Office (NACO) containing Instrument Approach Procedure charts (IAP), Departure Procedure charts (DP), Standard Terminal Arrival charts (STAR), and Airport Diagrams. Also included are Take-Off, Radar, and Alternate Minima textual procedures.
Airport/Facility Directory -
A pdf version of printed paper books containing data on public and joint use airports, seaplane bases heliports, VFR airport sketches, NAVAIDs, communications data, weather data sources, airspace, special notices, and operational procedures. Covered are the conterminous United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The Airport/Facility Directory includes data that cannot be readily depicted in graphic form: e.g., airport hours of operation, types of fuel available, runway data, lighting codes, etc. General Information, Directory Legend and Supplemental information pages printed in each of the A/FD volumes are provided as multi-page PDF files. Updated every 56 days by NACO.
